DOWNTOWN MIDDLETOWN REVITALIZATION INITIATIVE

Middletown, New York — The New York Department of State and City of Middletown
announced today that the Downtown Middletown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) will kick off
next week with the first, inaugural meeting of the initiative’s DRI Local Planning Committee.
The meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 4th at Middletown City Hall from 5:00 PM to 7:00
PM. The outcome of the DRI will result in a Strategic Investment Plan for Downtown
Middletown. This committee will meet monthly during the initiative’s process to provide
direction and overall guidance to the DRI consultant team. The public is invited to attend all
meetings. At this inaugural meeting they will have an opportunity to meet the consultant team,
hear about the planning work tasks and schedule, and to learn more about the proposed
program for involving the community throughout the plan development.

The State of New York is investing $10 million in each of 10 communities identified by the
Regional Economic Development Councils (REDC) to facilitate their transformation into more
vibrant communities. Downtown Middletown was selected as the Mid‐Hudson Region’s
Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) community. Middletown is in the midst of a
renaissance, with city government, the Business Improvement District and other nonprofits,
educational institutions such as SUNY Orange, Touro College, Fei‐Tian College,
and Fei‐Tian Academy of the Arts, and the business community all working together
toward transforming Middletown into a vibrant downtown that serves all residents of
the City and the surrounding region. Much has already been accomplished; with an
infusion of state technical and financial assistance under the DRI, Downtown
Middletown could serve as a model for the revitalization of small cities across New York
State.

The DRI Strategic Investment Plan will include an assessment of local assets and
opportunities and development of a unique community vision to guide and direct public
and private investment within and around the Downtown. The plans will also include
identification of economic development, transportation, housing, and community
projects that align with the vision that can be leveraged for additional investment.

Free parking and entry (including ADA access) is at City Hall, 16 James Street, Middletown.
Nearby transit service includes Shortline Bus Coach USA, 14 Railroad Avenue, Middletown.
